About Me

I am an avid reader, animal lover, devourer of guacamole, storyteller and the author of An Unexpected Obsession, A Dose of Reality, Witch Way, A Coven by Christmas, Love Spells, Summer Solstice (coming soon), Flirting With Death, Flirting With Murder and the rest of the upcoming Assassins Anonymous series. I attended Arizona State University (go Sun Devils!) and make my home in the Valley of the Sun with my husband and three pampered pets. I like to discuss everything funny, sexy, sassy and absurd. But mostly I like to talk about books... and shoes... and outrageously expensive purses... and Chanel sunglasses ...oooh, and anything sparkly... or fluffy! So, come on in and let's chat!

She keeps getting better - Hollywood Scandals by Gemma Halliday

I finished reading Hollywood Scandals over the weekend and just have to say that every book I've read by Gemma Halliday get a little bit better! This is the first in a new series (Hollywood Headlines) and takes a few of the characters from her High Heels Mysteries and runs with it. I've already started the second book in the series, Hollywood Secrets, and was pleasantly surprised to find the main character changes from book-to-book, making it easy to read out of order if you so wish (although, I bought the boxed set - a steal at $6.99).

Product Description:

"Tina Bender is the gossip columnist at the infamous L.A. Informer tabloid. She knows everything about everyone who's anyone. And she's not afraid to print it. That is, until she receives a threatening note, promising, "If you don't stop writing about me, you're dead." Now her managing editor, Felix Dunn (from the High Heels Mysteries), has her teaming with a built bodyguard, a bubbly blonde, and an alcoholic obituary writer to uncover just which juicy piece of Hollywood gossip is worth killing over."

Once again, I highly recommend Gemma Halliday's books to those of you who appreciate a good Chick-Lit tale. Hesitant? You can download Hollywood Scandals for only $.99!

Mayhem in High Heels by Gemma Halliday - A Review

I finished reading the final book in the High Heels Mysteries series by Gemma Halliday today and would definitely recommend it to all my fellow chick lit lovers. Mayhem in High Heels finally finds Maddie planning her wedding and is a great ending to a fun series.

Product Description:

"Maddie Springer is finally walking down the aisle with the man of her dreams. And she's got the perfect wedding planner to pull it all off in style. Well, perfect, that is, until the woman winds up dead - murdered in buttercream icing. Suddenly Maddie's hope of a dream wedding melts faster than an ice sculpture at an outdoor buffet. And when her groom-to-be is assigned the detective in charge of the case, there goes any chance of a honeymoon. Unless, of course, Maddie can find the murderer before her big day. With the help of her fellow fashionista friends, Maddie vows to unveil the cold-blooded killer. Is it the powerful ex-husband, the hot young boy toy, a secret lover from the past, or a billionaire bridezilla on the warpath? As the wedding day grows closer, tempers flare, old flames return, and Maddie's race to the altar turns into a race against time."

These books are pure escapism and I enjoyed them immensely. Even while rolling my eyes at some of the ridiculous scenarios, they still made me keep turning the pages to see what trouble Maddie would find herself in next. Although I disagree with her final choice, after reading the excerpt from Gemma's newest series, the Hollywood Headlines Mysteries, I understand why the author chose the path she did and I am looking forward to starting Hollywood scandals.

While not exactly new territory, the High Heels Mysteries are too much fun to worry about how similar they are to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books (which I love). I also appreciate that I can buy both of Gemma Halliday's series for the price of one new release by Janet Evanovich (that's right, eight books for the price of one). If you're looking for a new author to sink your teeth into, Gemma Halliday would not be a bad choice. Like I said before, the books are fun, easy, light reads.

I definitely recommend going ahead and buying the whole series because you really can't beat the price for days of entertainment. The Amazon links are below if you're interested:

The series heats up in book 4: Alibi in High Heels by Gemma Halliday

Now we're getting somewhere! I have been reading the High Heels Mysteries by Gemma Halliday and just finished book four in the series, Alibi in High Heels. So far the books have been entertaining and fun, even though Maddie can be a bit annoying at times. But in this latest book, I am really starting to get into the saga.

Product Description:

"Baguettes, bodies, and haute couture galore! Shoe designer turned amateur sleuth, Maddie Springer, is at it again, this time in fabulously fashionable Paris. When Europe's designer de jour, Jean Luc LeCroix, invites Maddie to show her creations at Paris Fashion Week, Maddie's sure she's died and gone to heaven. That is until Jean Luc's top model is found dead on the runway, stabbed with a familiar stiletto heel. Sure someone is trying to frame her, Maddie enlists the help of her friends, including the sexy Detective Jack Ramirez, to uncover a daring jewel heist, a devious blackmailer, and even a few skeletons lurking in the closets of those closest to her. But as the evidence mounts, Maddie becomes the prime suspect and Ramirez is stuck between a badge and a cute blonde with a tendency for trouble. Will he stand by her as she attempts to track down an international killer, or will this be the case that finally comes between them? One thing's for sure, if Maddie doesn't uncover the real killer soon, she may be saying her final adieu."

I hate spoilers, so I won't give anything away... but I have to say that Maddie's choice is not the one I would have made... hooking me into the next book, Mayhem in High Heels, to see if she changes her mind! If you're interested in the series, buy the boxed set... at $9.99 for five books, it's a steal! Good and getting better with each installment, I definitely recommend Gemma Halliday's High Heels Mysteries if you are a fan of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum.

A question for my readers...

Some of you may know that I am working on my third novel, which will be a humorous romantic suspense/mystery series involving a recovering assassin. (You can read the first four chapters here. Just click on the Assassins Anonymous tab above.) I'm about a third of the way through and am at a point where the main character could go in two directions.

So, what I want to know is this: would you like Kayla to go through her "recovery" as a normal person, or would her having the ability to control some things around her telepathically be more interesting? Her ability would be a result of her near death experience, and I think it could be A LOT of fun, but I really want a reader's opinion. I've never written anything paranormal, but love the genre and can't help but wonder what it would be like if Kayla could get herself into trouble with her uncontrollable urges, even when they're just naughty thoughts inside her own head.

I'm at a loss as to which way to take her!!! Help!

Thanks in advance for your input...

Loved this book: Three Girls and a Baby by Rachel Schurig

Finished reading Three Girls and a Baby tonight by Rachel Schurig and can't believe this is a debut novel! Absolutely adorable storyline with real characters and an interesting approach to a subject that could have been predictable and, well, boring. Not this book! I can't even express how much I enjoyed reading it!This is the epitome of the chick-lit genre: fun, funny, girly, and little bit heartwarming.

From the Product Description:

"Ginny McKensie's life is spiraling out of control.

Finished with college, she should have been planning her wedding. After all, Ginny and Josh were made for each other—everyone said so. Except the love of her life didn't agree.

Now Ginny is back in her hometown, unwillingly single, and stuck in a dead-end job. When she discovers she's pregnant, Ginny is convinced her life is ending. Instead of planning a future with Josh, she's learning the truth about morning sickness, juggling bills, and seeing just how far designer jeans can stretch.

Her life-plan never included dating again (not even with her too-hot new boss), or being a single mother at 23. Now, with the help of her best friends, Annie and Jen, Ginny must try to re-imagine—and rebuild—a life she never wanted."

I think the synopsis does a good job of letting you know what the story is about, so I'm not going to go into further detail and risk giving anything away. Suffice it to say that if you enjoy romance, chick-lit, and everything in between, you will enjoy this book.

What are you waiting for? Go buy it now!

Happy reading!
